Vatuvonu Adventist High School.

The legal dispute between the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Fiji and the Fiji government over Vatuvonu Adventist High School will go before a judge in the High Court on June 24.

Yesterday, during a brief hearing, the Fiji Mission was given until June 3 to file its documents in response to the documents filed by the Ministry of Education.

As previously reported, the case began as a result of the appointment of non-Adventist staff to Vatuvonu Adventist High School (on Vanua Levu, Fiji’s second largest island). On April 15, High Court proceedings were commenced by the Attorney-General’s office against Vatuvonu school and the Adventist Church. The orders block the closure of the school and prevent the Church having any say on the government’s appointment of the principal or staff.
