5th July 2019
On Sabbath, 29 June 2019, the format of the Hope Community Adventist church in High Wycombe, was not the traditional Sabbath School and family worship service. Our ministry on the day was in the form of a health fair. As a community church Hope intentionally organise programmes and events for the community to attend as it is the mission to serve the local community.
The church believes in opening networks, forming attachments and winning the confidence of the community before encouraging them to become disciples of Christ. Inspiration comes through following the advice given by the servant of the Lord in The Ministry of Healing, page 143, “Christ’s method alone will give true success in reaching the people. The Saviour mingled with men as one who desired their good. He showed His sympathy for them, ministered to their needs, and won their confidence. Then He bade them, ‘Follow Me’.”
Amongst the many blessings celebrated at Hope Community church is the privilege of having several health professionals amongst the membership. As a result several services were offered free of charge to members of the community including blood pressure, cholesterol, prostate PSA testing, BMI/weight, body fat distribution and body pH. Health presentations by experts were also given on the following topics: dementia, prostate cancer, depression and tips to improve one’s health. With members also able to cook delicious vegetarian and vegan food, there were cooking demonstrations with free samples.
The members of the community expressed their appreciation of the quality of the events that were presented; below are a few comments by members of the community on the evaluation forms:
“The information presented today was very good, and patiently explained.” “The information presented today was brilliant.”
