More Aussie kids will have an opportunity to be part of the next Sanitarium Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon series, with three events to be run in New South Wales for the first time.
Now in its 21st year, the series will be held in 10 locations around Australia in 2019, including a new event in Camden in Sydney’s south-west.
The TRYathlon is designed for children aged 7 to 15, no matter their sporting abilities or experience. It supports kids’ health and wellbeing by giving them an opportunity to enjoy healthy outdoor activity and boost their self-esteem in a fun and friendly environment that rewards everyone for just giving it a TRY!
Earlier this week Australian soccer star Tim Cahill encouraged children at Auburn Adventist School to give it a go. All kids who complete the achievable course at their own pace receive a medallion as they cross the finish line. The swim leg is divided by age and gender into small groups at the start. Younger kids in the 7-10 age group do a 75m swim, 3km cycle and 500m run. Older kids aged 11-15 do a 150m swim, 6km cycle and 1km run.
There’ll also be lots of extra fun things to do at the event village, including a sports expo, making it a great day out for the whole family.
Last year, more than 14,000 Aussie kids took part in TRYathlon events across the country. The initiative forms part of Sanitarium’s mission to help give Aussie kids the right foundation to live long, happy and healthy lives and reduce the incidence of non-communicable disease in the community.
